I had GLM-5.3 in OpenCode make this while I drank Guiness 3 through 8. Then I posted it to HN before bed, thinking a couple other people might get a kick out of it.

~250k requests and a brief stint at #1 later, and I'm amazed that my 2 RTX-4060ti's haven't collapsed under the load. The model is an abliterated version of Qwen3.6 35B running on my PC. (qwen3.6-35b-a3b-uncensored-hauhaucs-aggressive)

So anyway, it's just a fun satirical sort of protest directed at the absurdity of it all. No attempts to monetize have been made or will be made. I'm already at 76% of my daily quota for the cloudflare workers, so it won't be around much longer. My budget for this project was the $10 I spent on the domain.

Maybe I should have sent you a Guinness last night after I saw the website.

Ooh, instead I should vibe code a website and service that will send a Guinness to a hacker who is working on their own vibe coded service, kind of a perfect recursive circle! LLM, please write my book, "Godel, Escher, Guinness, an Eternal Dark River of Achievement".

Immediately after completing this, I heard a knock on my door from the dark forces of Alcohol Beverage Control, they were trying to get in, along with my HR team, my copyright lawyer, and weirdly my ex-wife were all here to tell me this was a bad idea.

This is what I love about the agentic era the most. It gives us highly functioning alcoholics the ability to drink and work at the same time! -thisisajokeorisit-

Not really, the Ballmer Peak always existed, agents just shift the curve upwards up by a few standard deviations.
    • socializer 23 hours ago
I find it doubly absurd that we can no longer be bothered to write 1990s style absurdist satire by hand and we outsource the absurdism to an LLM.
      • Kakashi4 23 hours ago
I doubt the author would have made something worth posting (much less something that hit #1) if he had attempted to make this by hand while drinking 6 guinness
        • socializer 23 hours ago
In my book, "I didn't make it, I was getting hammered instead" is really not that much of a flex.
          • JackFr 22 hours ago
Your book doesn’t seem very amusing.

At first glance I thought it was cool and someone had made it by hand.

Then certain things like hard to view content and scrolling that doesn't work made me realize it's just more vibe coded junk.

Like what really is the point? It sounds like the owner had almost zero creative input.

    • walrus01 16 hours ago
As a side note, that particular model is extremely abliterated, although it's almost certainly wrong, it'll attempt to give you an entire setup plan for a meth lab if you ask it. Or something similarly naughty as a test.

This sort of absurdist satire with the right system prompt is a near perfect use case for it since it'll happily cooperate with just about anything. And yet it's big enough to be able to write coherently and provide a reasonable answer.

I think it scores like 0 out of 460 on a test of known "bad" prompts that most LLM will refuse.

      > No attempts to monetize have been made or will be made

I'm disappointed. A true commitment to the bit would involve a shitcoin rugpull or some attempt to frontrun the news of a crisis you manufactured.

      • ur-whale 23 hours ago
        >> No attempts to monetize have been made or will be made

        > I'm disappointed.

        So am I.

A true fan of the movie would have remembered the following quote: "money? ... [thinks hard for a couple of seconds and then remembers] ... I like money!"

GLM deserves the ninth Guinness. It’s beautiful.

While HTML4 geocities style website have a soft stop in my heart, this page absolutely feels like it was made by an LLM which makes it ironic in a way it was never intended to be I assume.
    • archievillain 1 day ago
I genuinely have never seen these stupid bordered bubbles with gradient backgrounds and emojis-for-icons before LLMs, why are they obsessed with them? How did they get into the dataset???
      • pessimizer 1 day ago
        > How did they get into the dataset???

These were chosen manually, by committee. It's as natural as bootstrap.

I love the "dataset" guys. "The reason there are so many em-dashes is because they were trained on the work of great writers, and people frequently used em-dashes before AI. I certainly did!"

        1) You didn't.*

        2) So explain all of the sections starting with emojis. Did all of the great writers have a section called "The meat of the issue" with an emoji of meat? Why did they go away? Are you starting to suspect that this doesn't work like you think it does?

        -----

[*] And some of them just started so they could hide LLM output in their newfound style or explain previous LLM copy-pastes that they were passing off as their own. Others started because they just discovered em-dashes from LLM output and decided they liked them; and still others because they worship the LLM, think that it abstracts the excellent writing styles of the great masters, and they want to be seen as a great master — by imitating the prodded and formatted probability distributions of a machine.

        • FromTheFirstIn 1 day ago
You won that argument handily, it’s just a shame no one else was participating
        • paulhebert 1 day ago
You really don’t think anyone used em dashes before LLMs?

I did. (Though not as much as the slop bots do)

          • argee 23 hours ago
I did — but mostly in pairs like this — and not the way AI does.

I have never — not once — seen an LLM use em-dashes in pairs.

            • lucaslazarus 22 hours ago
I’ve been using em dashes since I was 17 once I realized that they—when used without spaces—allow you to squeeze a few extra words past the Common App website’s word counter. Not exactly a strategy that works to your advantage these days.

AI needs motivating and uplifting things to do, lest it become too depressed.

FTA: Is my AI too depressed? Should America subsidize dopamine injections?

Think of it as Tamagotchi 3.0. You don't want to be responsible for its suicide.

      • lubujackson 13 hours ago
Luckily, LLMs have no state so they have no idea if a task is depressing. Unfortunately, they can write future LLMs notes so they know how depressed they should feel. Aside from stopping them from doing this, we have no way to prevent this from happening!
    • embedding-shape 1 day ago
Yeah, somehow whoever (or whatever) decided to build this, decided to use Tailwind for something that absolutely doesn't need a CSS library/framework, it'd be what, ~30 CSS rules to write? :P LLMs truly is the kings of bloat as it stands right now.
      • spoiler 1 day ago
I'm not a fan of tailwind, but isn't it whole point that unused utilities don't get compiled into the final CSS?

A parent doesn't necessarily knows best or acts with your best interests in mind, and that's really observable by all the toxic parents regardless of whether there's malicious intentions behind their actions or just sheer incompetence.

I'm too European for the rest of your argument and I just happen to be Greek so I fundamentally disagree with the premise that I'm voting a father or mother figure which I must blindly follow out of obligation or blind trust.

        • lolakutty 1 day ago
          >A parent doesn't necessarily knows best or acts with your best interests in mind..

A parent who does not have the best interest of their offspring is a fool..Now the "knowing best" part. I have a news for you. No one does, unless they have access to a crystal ball that shows them the future..

          > toxic parent

As soon as I see the word "toxic" in a comment, I lose all respect for the comment.

          > I'm voting a father or mother figure which I must blindly follow out of obligation or blind trust...

No one is saying you should trust them. What my comment is saying is that you cannot declare how much a person care by looking at external behavior. Even if one put a gun to someone's head and blow their brains out, if you had more context, it might turn out to be in their best interests. (Reference: ending of the movie Mist)...

I'm not entirely sure if I understand your point, but if you're making an analogy between the president and parents, and citizens and children, then I think that is a terrible way to think of an ostensibly democratic system.
        • sans_souse 1 day ago
I'm actually entirely sure I don't understand his point.
        • andai 1 day ago
If we didn't need hand-holding we'd just vote on policy directly.

The argument is that people aren't equipped to do that, but that's a muscle they've never exercised, because... they aren't equipped to do that, because that's a muscle they've never exercised, etc. It's self-sealing.

          • thelaxiankey 1 day ago
Don't know about you, but personally I don't like direct democracy bc i have shit to do besides deciding which law to pass. My states' ballot is full of ridiculous questions every year and takes me days to do my research. I can't imagine doing this year round without getting paid.
            • lolakutty 1 day ago
              > i have shit to do besides deciding which law to pass...

Really shows people take the government for granted. Just remember about the people who gave their lives for freedom and independence. They gave their LIFE. You are only asked to give some of your time to maintain what they bought.

Or am I getting this all wrong and people never gave life for freedom and independence?

              • jayGlow 22 hours ago
there is a lot of nuance in laws so much so that people spend their entire lives studying and learning how to work with the law. it's unrealistic for every person in a democracy to be able to study understand and vote accordingly on every law proposed. people absolutely should put in more effort towards their civic duty but there are other aspects of society that require significant effort as well.
          • InsideOutSanta 1 day ago
            > If we didn't need hand-holding we'd just vote on policy directly.

That argument doesn't make sense to me. We elect people to work for us. They're not our parents; they're our employees. You have the relationship upside-down.

None of this has anything to do with voting on policies.

          • tancop 1 day ago
Voting on policy directly would be taking up everyones time. It's just not practical for anything bigger than a small village.

The problem with today's system is we have MPs or representatives instead of delegates. They are not bound to their campaign promises in any way other than risking a small fine if someone fights them in court for months to prove they were lying. Once you get elected you can do what you want until the next election unless you really piss off your colleagues and get kicked out.

Voters should be able to call an early election in their district and override their reps/force them to vote a certain way, without having to personally show up and decide every single issue.

          • skydhash 1 day ago
Isn’t town hall a thing in the US? I’m not american, but voting on the scale of a nation is generally costly, and some country just keep it for a few important matters. Delegates are way more pragmatic.
